About This Event
Event Recap
Finding Purpose Outdoors Foundation (FPO) had the honor of providing Chuck and Ed, members of the American Legion in Houma, Louisiana, with a four-hour shark fishing experience in Grand Isle, Louisiana, through Longer’s Outdoors.
This opportunity was made possible through the generosity of Josh Benge, a supporter of Finding Purpose Outdoors who originally won the fishing trip. Rather than using the trip himself, Josh chose to donate the experience to FPO so it could be used to provide an outdoor therapy opportunity for others. His generosity is a great example of how individual supporters can directly contribute to FPO's mission and create meaningful experiences for those we serve.
The morning began at 6:30am on the waters surrounding Grand Isle. From watching dolphins and seabirds feeding in the early morning hours to experiencing the excitement of fighting blacktip sharks, the trip provided four hours of camaraderie, adventure, and time outdoors.
Chuck and Ed had an outstanding morning on the water, successfully bringing in three blacktip sharks, with several others breaking off during the fight. More importantly, the trip provided an opportunity to step away from everyday life, spend time together outdoors, and create memories through a shared experience.
Finding Purpose Outdoors extends our sincere appreciation to Josh Benge for donating this opportunity and to Ryan and Longer's Outdoors for providing Chuck and Ed with an exceptional experience and showcasing the outdoor opportunities Southern Louisiana has to offer.
This trip also represents an important step in FPO's continued growth. Over the next 6-12 months, Finding Purpose Outdoors plans to establish a Louisiana Committee, which will help expand our ability to provide outdoor opportunities and build partnerships throughout the region.
We are grateful to every supporter, partner, volunteer, and individual who helps make experiences like this possible. Their generosity allows Finding Purpose Outdoors to continue using hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities to create opportunities for connection, camaraderie, and renewed purpose.
Healing truly begins outdoors.
